San Diego in Shock, but Surviving, After Quakes

San Diego seems to be just fine, albeit a little rattled, after the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit Mexi-Cali on Easter Sunday. The event has been the topic of new’s stations all over the world and has provided sensible entertainment for earthquake enthusiasts as after shocks continue to wave through the county days later. Though the event was hardly a joking manner, as several city blocks were destroyed in the epicenter  (reports give a total of $300 million in damage) and two people were left dead, it got the whole town talking. “We thought someone was pounding on the wall…after about ten seconds, when it still hadn’t stopped, we jumped to the door frame!” says one San Diego resident, enthusiastically recalling the event to a group of friends.

Just as Imperial Valley and others were set to begin recovery for the area, the fault line struck again with a 5.5 on the Richter Scale four days later. While San Diego seems to be physically surviving, residents are obviously shaken up. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed the area in a state of emergency and has visited the area, plans to rebuild are hardly underway.
