North County Tips to Living Well

Things to Do — By meaghanclark on April 26, 2010 at 7:00 pm

Have you visited North County lately? If not, you’re missing out – besides the fact that the Carlsbad Flower Fields are in full bloom, North County offers up a fresh perspective on spring this year with activities fit for the whole family. It isn’t just a place to pick up some fresh meat (via Tip Top, where else?) or snack on some flavorful treats while checking out the waves (Swami’s…here we come!) but an area with as much personality as anyone else in the city.

Traveling up San Diego’s coast is easy thanks to the historic Route 1, where stop signs are as frequent as picturesque views. Much like the rest of our coastal bubble, North County features some favorable ocean activities perfect for any adventure – paddle board your way up to the seaside cliffs of Swami’s beach where you’ll find some of the best food and views (at Swami’s Café and the Self Realization Fellowship Temple) or walk along the paths covering Del Mar’s beaches. To really enjoy North County’s scenery and style, San Diego North offers up some “unusual health and wellness offerings” to the area.

San Diego Botanic Gardens feature some beautiful topography while also providing visitors with impromptu meditation centers within its 35 acres. This Encinitas staple features plants iconic to all regions and climates – from succulents (ideal for your downtown balcony) or sub-tropical fruit trees.

La Jolla’s infamous Surf Diva Surfing School features a program entitled “Surf & Yoga” where patrons not only get a chance to ride a wave but learn some unique surfer stretches following the training. Surf Diva’s original home lies in La Jolla Cove, with locations up the coast.

The Grand Del Mar’s infamous venue offers up some of the area’s most prestigious wellness packages, including a holistic lifestyle coach where visitors enjoy a introspective meeting regarding nutritional and lifestyle choices.

The majority of living healthy has to do with food, which is how local chefs came together to create Cooks Confab. Every few months meals created are centered around a certain ingredient, providing sustainable, local meals prepared in destinations around the city.

I have to admit, I tend to stay closer to downtown, but I do venture to North County when the pizza and beer Gods beckon me. These Gods take the form of Pizza Port. Located in Solana Beach. It is amazing 🙂 I would drive for days to be greeted by one of their amazing pizzas and a pint of their homemade beer. I liked the post! North County is worth the trek sometimes.
