Summer Weekend Getaway: Temecula Wine Country

Things to Do — By meaghanclark on June 9, 2010 at 7:41 pm

San Diego is in the midst of our infamous June gloom, so to get out of this foggy funk head east for a weekend getaway that doesn’t take you too far from the salty sea air of San Diego nor too much out of the pocketbook. We’re talking about Temecula Valley, a place where the sun always shines and grape juice is always flowing. Temecula is to San Diego what Napa is to the Bay Area, and with less than an hour north east of downtown it’s easily a day trip or simple weekend getaway with friends or loved ones.

All family owned and operated, and within close proximity to each other, the 30 or so Temecula wineries are perfect for that “hidden” getaway when you find yourself gloomy over the June weather. Temecula winery tours are ideal for finding the best grapes – from Callaway Vineyard to Cilurzo Vineyard & Winery, each have their own unwavering combination of tastes and style. With unique hotels steps from the vineyards, spending the night or weekend in Temecula is worth the price for exceptional dining and an endless glass of merlot or chardonnay. And because Temecula is inland, forget about packing a jacket or closed-toed shoes – seasonably mild, the average temperature is often times well above San Diego’s, while offering warm Santa Ana breezes.  Ideal for a San Diego summer road trip before the sun gleams through our foggy overhead, Temecula Wine Country is where it is at.
