If it has yet to become evident that San Diego has placed a certain emphasis on all things local, Spread San Diego will easily tip you over the edge. This local North Park restaurant that dishes comfort food with a local and organic twist has been turning heads for years. Why the sudden acclaim? Well if you don’t watch the Food Network, of which San Diego is a frequent stop, then you missed this nouveau comfort food’s slot where Tyler Florence couldn’t stop talking about the white chocolate, pretzels and peanuts. In case you missed it, you’re lucky enough to be within driving distance of this famed shop that give even the most experienced chefs goosebumps.

But this local eatery hardly needed the plug from celebrity chef Mr. Florence to get their name on the radar. Vegan enthusiasts who’ve had their own screen time, including Natalie Portman, can’t stop raving about Spread’s menu that changes daily and purchases greens at the local farmer’s market. Some sample items include a thai veggie pizza, macadamia rose pesto grits, haricots verts almondine and wild mushroom ragu.

If you have yet to try their take-over spreads and comfortable, down-home vibe on University, it’s time to celebrity the local and trendy feasts.
