It’s true, folks. San Diego is welcoming the acclaimed Sprinkles Cupcakes in La Jolla this week. Though we’re not necessarily known for our well-to-do bakery bites, we do have a few locally celebrated sweet shoppes that could have kept us busy for the next few months – but alas, this metropolis isn’t quite satisfied with just simply the locale anymore. After Pink Berry came to North Park a few years ago, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.
Of course, Sprinkles brings with it a bit of clout. It has been hailed as the first cupcakes bakery before the fad, where Candace Nelson and her husband started bringing celebrities their sugary fix in the Hollywood Hills. If you’ve been out at all since 2007, you’ll notice that the word of the cupcake spread – and since, Sprinkles has long been forgotten has the purveyor of this obsession. That is, until a new one comes to town.
We’re not going to bash on these little cakes just yet, but we’d also like to point out some other favorites that are sprinkled around the city already:
