We aren’t huge fans of the daily deals, but today’s Living Social sparked our attention – why? Because it’s a legit business. We’re not yogi’s are anything over here in San Diego, but as a city that is obsessed with body image and fitness, it seems fitting that we’ve got yoga studios lining the blocks up and down the coast. There are only a few worthy of your time, and The Little Yoga Studio is one of them.

The aptly named yoga studio is the size of a hotel bathroom, but that doesn’t mean the point doesn’t get across during afternoon sessions – patrons from around the county come into their hot yoga, vinyasa and and mixed yoga classes every single day. The classes fill up early, so make sure you pick out your spot and start relaxing early. Relatively priced for a downtown location, The Little Yoga Studio’s deal today is worth the price.

It’s just a few days away, and San Diegans are getting ready for V-Day – or at least the females are getting ready for it. Here are some of our favorites pics for a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend with your significant other – but make sure to call in today, as this is bound to be a serious wait list already.

Searsucker is the brainchild of Top Chef finalist and resident Brian Malarky, who decided to leave Oceanaire and open his own restaurant in the Gaslamp District. Dedicated to the crustacean and unusual meat, Searsucker is one of the hottest restaurants downtown.

Addison is another favorite that has prepared a six course meal from Chef William Bradley. The menu offered includes baby sea scallops with wild sorrel, uni and toasted sesame priced at $195 per person with wine pairings.

Extraordinary Desserts is an all-time favorite of any local, especially on special occasions. If you don’t want to spend a wad during dinner, hitting one of the Extraordinary Desserts locations is ideal – grab a coffee or specialty tea and one of their extravagant desserts, perfect for any sweet tooth.

El Bizcocho has prepared a four course meal perfect for two, featuring oyster shooters with yuzu minonette and a whole spectrum of flavors and unusual cuisine. The signature red velvet valrhonoe chocolate and rose inflused ganache with white chocolate cream ends the evening perfectly.

Alexander’s is an alternative favorite, where the plates aren’t as pricey but the ambiance is still there. Nestled in the middle of North Park, it’s a hidden gem whether you’re looking for romance or not, and with a three course meal that still satisfies the taste-buds, it’s a worthwhile trip.

The San Diego Padres aren’t typically the headliners when it comes to Major League Baseball. Here in San Diego, we are all about supporting the friars and their fans, but everywhere else we’re a lost cause. While our stats box hasn’t changed, the classic jersey has – and it’s that change that is getting national attention.

As it is tradition, the San Diego Padres have payed tribute to the Marines and Navy in the past by donning a camouflage jersey. This year, in keeping with the decade old tradition, the tribute to the Marine MARPAT is almost a little too good, say fans and sports critics. Digitally designed, the camouflage is so detailed that it might be difficult for fans in both Petco Park and television to notice the difference.

The Marines whose pattern this is based from couldn’t be more pleased with the result. The San Diego Union-Tribune quotes Jack Ensch, the Padres’ retiring director of military affairs, as saying “Up close, they look great. But they are going to blend in more on television and from the stands. Many fans aren’t going to be able to tell that these are camouflage uniforms paying tribute to the military.”

On 4th Avenue in San Diego’s Gaslamp district, you’re often not keen on finding a brand new restaurant. That might all change now that The Lincoln Room has set up shop directly across from the Horton Plaza exit. Convenient? We think so.

Owned by La Puerta, The Lincoln Room is a newly refurbished bar and eatery that is decorated to look like our old pal Abe Lincoln’s home. Don’t get my drift? It’s got logs lining the wall…enough said? The bar is a classic San Diego restaurant with bright shining lights and some funky art, and red leather booths that are still so shiny and new patrons might slip.

The comfort food served up is pretty simple, including mac & cheese, truffle fries and grilled cheese sandwiches – all the rave right now. They’ve got a little heartier fare with burger and larger poultry dishes, but from what we could gather the bar grub is the way to go – pair it with one of their $10 signature cocktails, including the margarita a la La Puerta, and it’s a great place to start your night on the town.

So when I found out that any UCSD alumni could attend an informational session with The Linkery owner Jay Porter, I got pretty excited (hence, the blog). You see, The Linkery is one of San Diego’s best restaurants – and not just because it’s got quite an extensive menu. They are one of the few to follow the “farm to table” trend here in our beautiful city, and were ever named one of the 100 Best Farm to Table restaurants by Gourmet Magazine. Pretty impressive for just a small, North Park shop.

It’s true, folks. San Diego is welcoming the acclaimed Sprinkles Cupcakes in La Jolla this week. Though we’re not necessarily known for our well-to-do bakery bites, we do have a few locally celebrated sweet shoppes that could have kept us busy for the next few months – but alas, this metropolis isn’t quite satisfied with just simply the locale anymore. After Pink Berry came to North Park a few years ago, I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.

Of course, Sprinkles brings with it a bit of clout. It has been hailed as the first cupcakes bakery before the fad, where Candace Nelson and her husband started bringing celebrities their sugary fix in the Hollywood Hills. If you’ve been out at all since 2007, you’ll notice that the word of the cupcake spread – and since, Sprinkles has long been forgotten has the purveyor of this obsession. That is, until a new one comes to town.

We’re not going to bash on these little cakes just yet, but we’d also like to point out some other favorites that are sprinkled around the city already:

We love our golf in San Diego, especially at Torrey Pines Golf Course (it was, after all, the 2008 home to the US Open). Next weekend, January 24-30, Torrey Pines will once again up its green to the most well known golfers in the world. The Farmers Insurance Open will introduce former champion Ben Crane as he defends his title against illustrious players like Angel Cabrera, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Lucas Glove and Tiger Woods.

This past summer Farmers Insurance partnered with the PGA Tour and the Century Club of San Diego to ensure that its the namesake for the next four years. It’s already an established institution in the community, especially since just 30 miles up the road in Carlsbad, TaylorMade is headquartered.

If you’d be interested in spotting any of the action, daily tickets are $26 in advance and $32 at the door. Parking is available at the nearby Gliderport.

It’s unusual for San Diego to gain national attention for the weather, but this year has turned the city of the sun topsy-turvy with every season. This summer was one of the coldest in decades, and just last month we had the warmest day of the year (it was November). So it shouldn’t surprise many that come the final days of December, San Diego has been boggled down by inches of rain.

After the midnight storm that hit east counties a mere three days before Christmas, roads and residences unprepared for the storm were flooded early into the morning light. Qualcomm Stadium is already flooded several inches deep, though reports indicate the show will go on come Sunday. Meanwhile, last minute shoppers are finding their favorite mall, Fashion Valley, even more packed than normal come this time of year as most roads are closed coming in and out of the place that houses some of shoppers favorite finds.

Much like a post from last year, what is there to do during this wet weather?

Due to the timing, avoiding the malls at all costs is an essential (unless, of course, you’ve forgotten those stocking stuffers). Like most of the nation, a stay-cation is going to be your best bet during this wet weather, once road closures and flooding dies down (which is expected to happen this weekend, just in time for Santa). Pick up a book from the local library, head to a movie at the local cinema (Hillcrest Cinema is a fun adventure no matter what season) or sip hot cocoa while watching the Pacific Ocean’s waves (World Famous in Pacific Beach).

Well, not technically. At least – not where most of San Diegans are sitting. But this is pretty entertaining nonetheless.

The ‘Rancheti’ is a permanent figure, and prominent roadside attraction, to residents passing by the Ranchita County Store on Montezuma Road. The figure is actually so famous that its gleaming grin dons several souvenirs available at the local shop, including t-shirts and mugs.
