Twelve Santiago Museums Open (Free and Late!) on Oct. 29th, 2010

Museos de Medianoche, or Santiago’s Museums ’til Midnight event is happening this Friday, October 29th. On this day, from 6 PM until midnight, twelve interesting museums and cultural centers will be open to the public for free (and until late). It’s a great way to get out and see the artistic and cultural offerings the city has available, rubbing shoulders with like-minded locals. Twelve museums and cultural centers are probably more than you’ll be able to see in just six hours, but if you plan it well (and bring snacks), you could probably snag a few in just a few short hours (and for free!). If you haven’t had enough museums, be sure to check out this NileGuide guide on the centrally-located museums and other points of interest near Plaza de Armas.

Below is a list of the participating museums and cultural centers, with their addresses and the closest metro to take, which in many cases are just a few blocks away. Where the distances are greater, this has been noted. Links lead to information on each of the museums’ websites or to NileGuide’s Santiago pages, if we’ve already got them in English. Highlights include an 8:00 PM Scottish bagpipe concert at the Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, and a 10:00 PM Chingana (cueca, Chilean national dance) class at the same. Hope to see you there!
