What's New — By swyatt on March 28, 2010 at 8:41 pmThe Maxwell Hotel, adjacent to the Seattle Center, opened its doors to guests on March 22nd. The hotel’s proximity to many of the events at Key Arena, Pacific Northwest Ballet and the numerous local theater group will likely make it a favorite for leisure travelers. In addition, the expanding Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation headquarters is likely to be a key client. The property features 139 guestrooms, an indoor pool, an exercise facility, an espresso bar, 1,600 square feet of meeting space and 3,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. Restaurant partners are also being considered.
The hotel adds Columbia West Properties’ hospitality portfolio, which includes the Watertown Hotel and the University Inn in the University District, and the Ramada Inn in downtown Seattle.
The property’s pineapple mosaic is a nod to the Hawaiian symbol of hospitality. The swimming pool features tiles painted by local children, and other unique features decorate the property.
An unusual opening reception featured acrobats, a contortionist, musicians and burlesque performers.
