The G20 Summit is scheduled to be held in Seoul from November 11-12, 2010 and as a result, security is heightened across the city.
The Group of 20 (G20) is made up of the world’s 19 leading economies plus the European Union. Over 32 heads of state and 10,000 participants will be meeting in Seoul for the summit.
Given the tension at past G20 Summits, there is expected to be demonstrations that will disrupt travel and could potentially become violent. Travel alerts have been issued and it is advised that if you are not directly involved with the summit, then you should avoid host sites, including the COEX Center, which is located in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu in south Seoul.
A protest area has been designated for Olympic Park but it is possible that protests will break out in other areas of the city.
It is expected that there will be delays throughout Seoul for all forms of transportation – road, subway, buses and at airports.
