Easter in Shanghai

While Shanghai may not be the first destination to come to mind this Easter, it does not fail to provide plenty of springtime fun for the holiday. With great dining, amusing kids events, and a plethora of ways to make a family-fun Easter at home, Shanghai is a great place to usher in the new season with bunnies and colored eggs.
At the Kids Gallery, children can learn to make colored egg decorations in a 320 RMB workshop that will also provide fun entertainment in the form of an Easter egg hunt and fun fellowship with other children. Contact infoshanghai@kidsgallery.com for more information or to book your tickets. Another fun option for kids is the Kids Element recreational activities like basket making and egg coloring for a cheaper 250 RMB; visit their website for more information.
For a romantic Easter, consider these dining options around Shanghai. At the Hilton, in the Atrium Cafe, a pleasantly elegant brunch from noon to 2:00pm awaits. Another elegant option would be the chocolate room of Laris, where you’ll find the world-renown chef has prepared an amazing assortment of delicate and beautiful chocolates on sale until the 4th. For a more relaxed atmosphere, the Paulaner Brauhaus offers a children’s egg hunt while you look out over the Huangpu River and enjoy a nice cold beer. For the truly extravagant, the Westin Bund Center offers quite the treat, with acrobats, a 12-piece band, a magician and amazing 4-star culinary treats, but you’ll be paying a hefty 500+ RMB per person for this delight.
If all else fails, you can always throw a do-it-yourself party at home. Shanghai has some great party stores, and bakeries and specialty stores don’t hold back on ANY holiday, even if it is as remote as Easter in the Far East. You’ll find that the Gourmet Shop (Shanghai Marriot Hotel Hongqiao) has specials on chocolate eggs, cakes and other delicacies. Ruby’s Party Supplies Shop has an assortment of Easter decorations, chocolate eggs, and various other colorful and fun decorations for all events.
