Cinco de Mayo is one of the most amazing drinking holidays of the year. Like Mardi Gras, it’s pure fun, pure booze and easy to enjoy while abroad. Shanghai’s Cinco de Mayo scene is impressive, and with a few great Mexican eateries in town you can even make a day of it.

El Mexicano has el exelanto food. Start your party early with a nice burrito dinner at this popular Mexican favorite. Similarly tasty, and a bit more authentic, try Mexico Lindo for some tasty enchiladas, where the attention to detail on the sauces makes all the difference.

Zapata’s always has a Cinco de Mayo party. You’ll find cheaper drinks, great Mexican music and of course the Mexican chow is to die for.Dancing on the tiny, wooden dance floor is fun, and especially when the Mexicans join in the fun showing off their sexy salsa moves and cha cha skills.

Cantina Agave isn’t Mexican, it’s South American. And they’ll tell you that any day of the year except Cinco de Mayo, when they embrace their northern brethren and enjoy the tequila and Mexican tunes. The food is excellent, and the bar boasts one of the better tequila collections in town. Get there early if you want a table, or else plan on waiting.

Whatever you decide to do, don’t let this massive party holiday skip you by this year!
