Yes, the majority of accommodation in Singapore may be ritzy, glitzy five-star hotels but if you’re visiting town on a budget, fear not because it is possible to find somewhere to lay your head in Singapore without breaking the bank.

Little India is the number one location of choice for backpackers and budget travellers – its cheap restaurants, internet cafes and the excellent Tekka Market are a godsend to budget conscious travellers, and several cheap yet attractive hotels have sprung up here in recent times. Chinatown and the Arab Quarter are other havens for low-cost options.

Below are three options to consider if you’re visiting Singapore on a budget:

Hangout @ Mount Emily
This trendy hostel is in the ideal location between budget Little India and glitzy Orchard Road, and provides hip, modern accommodation for the budget conscious with a choice of single or shared air-conditioned rooms.

Sleepy Sams
On Bussorah Street in the Arab Quarter this is an old-time favourite with backpackers.  Located on Singapore’s most picturesque pedestrian street, it offers hostel dorm rooms, and private single, double or triple options. Facilities include internet access, free local calls, hot showers, a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor bbq facilities.

Park View Hotel
This hotel near the Arab Quarter is popular with business travellers on a budget, looking for centrally located no-frills accommodation. The hotel is within easy reach of Suntec City and the Central Business District and features an onsite restaurant, parking, business centre and laundry service.
