Fall is the Perfect Time to Flee to Sonoma

The cold winds of November are chilling the coastal valleys of Sonoma County, but that just makes these orchard-covered hills and vine-draped valleys that much more picturesque. Thing is, the average tourist doesn’t know that, which means the crowds thin — and the prices drop — this time of year, making it the perfect time for a romantic weekend getaway or family escape.

The small towns and country byways of Sonoma have all manner of accommodation, from the highest end spa resorts, like the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn, to romantic hideaways like the Inn at Occidental and Applewood Inn & Spa to rustic cabins like the many tucked along the Russian River in Monte Rio and Guerneville. Whichever way your taste runs, this is the time of year to find bargains and renew old friendships. So check the web page of your favorite inn, hotel or resort and see what’s cooking for harvest time. Or better yet, hit the highway and come on out to the country. You’re bound to find something special to savor.
