There’s something about a scenic view of city lights at night or a sweeping natural landscape that seems to spark romance. Whether you’re newly dating, spending Valentine’s Day together, or celebrating an anniversary, these five Taipei spots provide some of the best and most romantic views in the city.

Not only is the Taipei 101 Observatory arguably the best place for a scenic view of the city anywhere in Taiwan, it’s the second tallest building in the entire world. It doesn’t get much higher than this, and with the world’s fastest elevator to zip you and your significant other to the top, setting the scene for romance is very literally effortless. Visit at night for the most romantic views of Taipei’s sparkling lights.

While the views from the top of the Taipei 101 are pretty darn spectacular, the views of Taipei 101, especially at sunset, are just as good. Taking the leisurely hike to the top of Elephant Mountain requires a bit more effort, but may be just the thing for love birds looking for romance in a more natural setting. Be warned, however; the Elephant Mountain peak is a favorite spot for photographers looking to snap shots at sunset, so you probably won’t have the place to yourself.

If the movies have it right, there’s just something fundamentally romantic about a ferris wheel, and the massive one at the Miramar Entertainment Complex offers particularly stunning views of the city as it makes its 17-minute round. Unlike Taipei 101 and Elephant Mountain, a ride on the Miramar ferris wheel lets you enjoy the views in your own private compartment.

Bishan Temple, located in the mountains of Neihu in northern Taipei, offers one of the more underrated scenic spots in the city. The architecture of the Taoist temple is beautiful by itself, but on clear days, it’s spot atop the mountain allows you to gaze over the entire city of Taipei. The views and romantic atmosphere only get better as the sun goes down and the lights of the city flicker to life.

Taipei is lucky enough to have a National Park within city limits, so for nature loving romantics, a hike up to the top of Seven Star Mountain (the highest peak north of Taipei) may be just the thing to set the mood for love. With several two to three hour hikes leading up to the peak, hikers will be rewarded for their efforts with expansive views extending from Taipei city all the way to the northern coastline.
