Explore Vancouver

Goodmorning, Saturday. Vancouver looks lovely in that shade of Spring.

“Wakey! Wakey! Rise and shine, the sun is up to scorch your eyeballs!”

I’m sure we have all experienced ( unwelcome) wake-up calls from our parents; the kind where they think it’s funny to grab the blinds and pull them back, only to expose blinding rays of bright light. Not the best way to coax you out of bed on a Saturday morning, but I think the Winter Farmers Market might do the trick.

If you’re new to Vancouver you will notice that there’s a common theme among many of our restaurants; eat local and eat fresh. We’re lucky enough to be able to have some of the best fish in the world, cheeses, meats and produce; it would be a crime to not make the most of it.

There are two weekends (Saturday the 10th and 24th) left of the Winter Farmers Market at Wise Hall (just off of Commercial), and the hours are quite civilized and start at 10am and go until 2pm. I know what you’re thinking…but I won’t be in Vancouver until June!? Do not fret, the Spring/Summer Markets are just around the corner.

Eatlocal.org has posted this handy little list of all the treats you can pick up this month

Produce: Apples (& Juice & dried), Asian Pears, Fresh Herbs, Garlic, Endive, White & Red Onions, Carrots, Celeriac, Potatoes, Fennel, Salad Greens, Mushrooms, Tomatoes (frozen) Quince, Cucumbers (GH), Shallots, Kale, Beets, Spaghetti Squash, Winter Squash, Hazelnuts, Walnuts, Seaweed, Dried fruit

Protein and Dairy: Eggs, Cow’s Milk Cheese, Beef, Chicken, Lamb, Pork, Sablefish, Salmon, Cod, Side Stripe Shrimp, Tuna, Octopus

You have one more sleep before you must set those Saturday morning alarms. Bon Apetit!

The market is located at WISE Hall, 1882 Adanac Street at Victoria Drive, Vancouver
