This past weekend was eventful in fun, feasts, friends and celebrations. Not only was it Canadian Thanksgiving, but I also had a wedding to participate in. The special night took place at the Vancouver Art Gallery, where the lobby was transformed into a romantic dining room for the bride and groom. If anyone is looking for a destination wedding in Vancouver, the VAG is a wonderful venue. Our rehearsal dinner was at the Georgian Court Hotel and we were served delicious local chicken, wild salmon, roasted potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables. Dessert was a Thomas Haas chocolate cake, how decadent! It was certainly a memorable meal.
In the spirit of keeping things romantic, here are a few suggestions for you and your special someone:
Grouse Mountain Sunset Tour: Sunsets are romantic their own, but when you throw in a gondola trip, a large mountain and amazing views, you’ve really got a successful recipe for romance. Just make sure you go up on a clear day and don’t let your date see you gawking over the view, more than them. The panoramic mountain, city and ocean views are out of this world. This two hour tour gives you enough time to walk around or go into the restaurant and enjoy the sunset.
Van Dusen Botanical Garden: These gardens are kept in immaculate condition year round and make for a lovely afternoon picnic, walk or photo-shoot. With the winter season soon approaching, the Christmas light display is always a real winner. Plus, with 22 hectares of land, it’s easy to sneak away for a little smooch!
Deep Cove: Deep Cove is quiet, charming and beautiful and is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon walking around hand-in-hand. Stop in one of the cafes for a coffee or grab a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. Deep Cove is surrounded by mountains and has a bib of water that looks out to the rest of the world. You will find yourself getting caught up in how lovely this little spot is.
Domaine De Chaberton Estate Winery: Sometimes a nice meal and a glass of wine is the perfect way to start a romantic evening. When you throw in a winery, you’re pretty much guaranteed romance. It’s about an hour’s drive out of Vancouver, but well worth the trip out into the Fraser Valley. The fresh country air, large farm fields and open sky are a nice reprieve from the bustling city. To complete the trip out, it’s best to make reservations at Bacchus Bistro, their in-house restaurant, because it fills up quickly.
It’s not Valentine’s Day any time soon, but why not surprise your love and take them out to do something fun in our very beautiful city?
