Vancouver is one of those city’s where almost as many people work and live downtown, which is fantastic on both ends of the spectrum. It’s also ideal for restaurants that want to cater to the weekday and weekend lunch crowd. If you find yourself needing to grab a bite while you’re on your lunch break, are pottering about downtown, or hastily running errands, these are a few pit-stops that will keep your energy levels sustained and sanity intact. Here are a few suggestions for those of us that can be pseudo ladies-what-lunch, work downtown or are visiting Vancouver:
Meat & Bread – (Gastown) Here, your iron levels and your stomach will thank you. If you’re looking for the ultimate sandwich, this is your spot.
Vancouver Art Gallery Cafe – (Downtown) Quick, affordable and a menu that changes daily, the Gallery Cafe is an ideal location if you’re on the run, or if you have hours to spare. The laid back vibe and staff that leave you to do your own thing make this a favorite spot. In the summer, the patio is an added bonus.
Rodney’s – (Yaletown) It’s never too early to savor some freshly shucked oysters, washed down with a cold glass of sauvignon blanc, of course! Then, followed by a hearty bowl of Manhattan chowder or one of their daily specials.
Urban Thai Bistro – (Yaletown) Lunch specials are a bargain here and the options are endless when it comes to creamy curries, fresh salad rolls and yummy noodle dishes! A visit here will keep your hunger at bay during those afternoon meetings.
Finch’s – (Gastown) A Gastown gem and another delicious spot to grab a fresh salad, gooey sandwich or warm soup!
Coast – (Downtown) Splurge or steal, there are dishes to fit any lunch time budget. The “His” and “Her” lunch boxes have major value and will satiate your hunger. “His” is complete New England clam chowder, fish and chips and a wedge salad, while “Her” lunch box is filled with Manhattan clam chowder, tuna sashimi salad and a deliciously fresh shrimp wrap. Both are equally delicious.
Medina Cafe – As if these guys need any introduction. Simply put, always delicious. The weekend waits can be a little daunting during peak hours, so avoid them by going during the week or off-peak on weekends.
Nuba – (Gastown) Flavorful Lebanese cuisine that’s both affordable and will cater to all the vegans, vegetarians or carnivore’s in your life.
