Yosemite Welcomes Summer Visitors

What's New — By petedevine on May 29, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Our first big weekend of Yosemite’s busiest season is underway.  There are lots of flowers between 2-4000′, and lots of snow higher up.  Tioga Road is only open 4 miles up from Crane Flat – though bicyclists will be allowed to ride car-free on the world’s best bike trail all the way up to Olmsted Point.    Glacier Point Road did not open as planned yesterday because of another couple of inches of snow and ice, but it should open later this morning.   Mariposa Grove Road also closed with snow, but should also open today.   Because of snow making the approach dangerous, Half Dome cables won’t be installed for a couple more weeks at best.  After a cool week, the weather is warming substantially and the waterfalls will be swelling considerably for a few days.  Respect the icy swiftwater!
