  • When picking somewhere to stay in Colombia’s capital, it is good to know that whatever your budget, Bogota will be happy to host. With the tourist industry increasingly growing, new hotels are popping up all over town, particularly those catering to the young traveler crowd, which have the tendency to be based in the Candeleria historical part of town. A stalk contrast to these bohemian style hostels are the slick boutique hotels which are most often situated on the north side of the city, as well as family run establishments suited for those taking shorter trips, or looking a more tranquil stay.

To sleep in style means a stay in the BH group’s El Retiro. Located in an extremely safe and most desirable part of town, overlooking parkland near the Zona Rosa shopping, the hotel offers modernity and comfort, particularly meeting the needs for business visitors staying in the city. Otherwise, for those visitors wanting to bask in Bogota’s colonial glory, wonderful hotels situated in beautiful old colonial buildings are also available, with Hotel de la Opera being perfect choice. Perfectly positioned right next to the Plaza de Bolivar on the pedestrianized street Calle 10 and one door down from the famous Theater Colon, the building is an exquisite colonial mansion which exudes elegance. With Colombo -Italian ownership, the hotel interior is tastefully decorated, with Italian furnishings and rooms which have high ceilings, comfortable double beds and all modern amneties you could require.

For the backpacking traveler, or for those looking to meet other visitors in the city, Bogota has a number of great hostels that are cheap, sociable and always full of intrepid explorers from across the globe. In many cases, it is here you will find links to the best tours in town, advice on interesting night-time spots in and around the city, and even come across a group of friends to accompany you on your way. Although private rooms are available, for a real budget bed, bunk up in shared dorms, which are a great way of meeting fellow voyagers.
