Leaving Bogota's central station and the station at Usaquen in the north of the city every Saturday, Sunday and Public holiday is the Tren Turistico de la Sabana. Far from being a gimmick for the most hardened trainspotters out there, this journey is one that will transport you back in time as it rolls through historical sites out into the beautiful countryside surrounding Bogota. There are trips that take in Zipaquira and Nemocon and give the traveller enough time to take in the famous salt cathedrals and perhaps some lunch before making the slow return journey.
