Active Things To Do in Boston

Everyone defines the word "active" differently. To some people that means getting up and out, putting on their running sneakers, and jumping over whatever comes at them that day. To others its getting up and out - but merely observing something new, like a game or sites. And still others, being active means getting out of the norm and exploring an entirely new place. Whatever your definition of active is, there plenty of things to do for you in Boston.

If the great outdoors are your calling, then meander through some of Boston's green spaces, like the Boston Common, where history meets leisure, the Public garden where you can walk over Swan Pond and view the flowers, or Peter's Park, which is great for bringing your dog along. Still yet, there is the Charles River Esplanade - the granddaddy of Boston's outdoor spaces. Take a jog, a sail or a picnic here, and spend your day on the banks of the river.

Prefer to sit back and enjoy the show? Head to Fenway Park, where the almighty Red Sox hit 'em home each season. If you'd rather see the city through a tour, try the Duck Tour - an all-terrain vehicle that takes passengers throughout the streets and into the water, or the Freedom Trail, which explores the downtown historical spots of the American Revolution.

If none of those whet your appetite, then head to the islands. For a shorter journey, try the Boston Harbor Islands National Park, and for a longer haul to the beaches, take the Cape Cod Fast Ferry (about an hour) to Provincetown.
