• Jamaica Pond is the 'jewel in the crown' of the Emerald Necklace, designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, who also designed Central Park in New York City. It is a lovely walk around the rim, a bird sanctuary in one corner & boats (kayaks, row boats & sail) for hire. There is fishing for those with permits but one of its most attractive features is a sailing program run by The Courageous Sailing Center. As it is fed by very strong, prehistoric cold springs of great depth, there is no swimming but there is no better place for a picnic.
