  • Salud! It doesn't matter where in the world you are; sometimes the craving for melt-in-your-mouth pastas and delectable pizza pies overtakes you. Luckily, the Italian restaurants of Boulder have just the fix.

With its its upscale atmosphere and delicious food, Frasca is consistently voted one of the best restaurants in Boulder. Its cuisine is drawn from the culinary traditions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, a subalpine region in northeastern Italy, and every year the staff takes a trip to Italy for a refresher course. Slightly less pricey is The Med, known for its flavorful tapas, wood-oven-baked pizzas, and killer happy hour deals.

Trattoria on Pearl has an extensive wine list and does pairings of after dinner drinks and desserts. This cozy spot also has a patio for people-watching during warm days and evenings.

Radda Trattoria -- started by the same chef who began Mateo, its French counterpart on Pearl Street -- has a social atmosphere and cuisine inspired by Tuscany.

Pasta Jay's is a bright, bustling spot on the Pearl Street Mall, offering steaming pastas, freshly baked breads, international wines, and Italian entrees at reasonable prices. Boulder Organic Pizzeria (BOP) offers more than just Napoletana-style pizzas, which can be made gluten-free or vegan.

For a cheap and quick Italian meal, Salvaggio's offers New York style Italian food: freshly-sliced meats, less-than-bubbly service, and a distinct lack of frou-frou choices. But the bread is made fresh daily and they don't skimp on the size!

    Buon Appetito, indeed!
