  • There's only so many art museums a five-year-old can take. When it's time to let the kids run loose, it's time for Boulder's kid-friendly attractions. But it's not all playgrounds and jungle gyms; these attractions are truly fun for the whole family.

In the warm months, bring the kids to Eben G. Fine Park for a picnic and a dip in the Boulder Creek. In the colder months, prearrange ski or snowboard lessons for the kids at Eldora Mountain Resort.

The Gateway Park Fun Center has miniature golf, Go-Kart rides, and a full arcade. And while the kids play, mom and dad can hone their golf games on a full driving range or hit some homers in Boulder's only batting cage. For an evening activity, view the stars and planets at Fiske Planetarium on the University of Colorado campus.

For an interactive, educational activity, the National Center for Atmospheric Research has on display satellites, weather balloons, robots, and supercomputers that can simulate the world's climate. There are also hands-on, weather-oriented exhibits and a theater, plus a  half-mile loop along a path with interpretive signs describing various aspects of weather and climate plus the plants and animals of the area.

Into the Wind is perhaps the most colorful store in existence. Located on the Pearl Street Mall, this store specializes in intricate and colorful kites, and also carries a large selection of imaginative toys designed to entertain and educate. While playing here, you might just reconnect with your own inner child -- or at least Boulder's spirit of youth.
