Description:

  • In 1627, when the British settlers came to Barbados, they landed at a location on the west coast of the island which they first named James Town, but later changed to Holetown. It reminded the settlers of The Hole in London. Today, Holetown is a bustling mini city with hotels, supermarkets, banks, restaurants, schools and churches. A monument to the settlement stands just outside the main complex which includes the police station, library, post office, and other government offices. The Holetown Festival is held each year in February to commemorate the settlement of the island. A brand new shopping and residential complex, the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, is the latest addition to Holetown, and will feature designer stores, restaurants, cafes, a cinema and nightclub. -Marsilyn Browne
