  • The Brisbane restaurant scene has made a name in the culinary world for its fresh, imaginative and adventurous cuisine. With its own particular character -- a fusion of modern technique and classic style -- the cuisine is heavily dependent on the region's unique local produce. But Brisbane is also a culinary explosion of goodness with a heavy Asian influence gracing its dishes.

An excellent place to sample Brisbane cuisine is at the Mt. Coot-tha Summit Restaurant. With a view such as it has, it would be easy to overlook the food, but it proves to be just as impressive. Surrounded by idyllic parkland, with Brisbane and the coast stretching out from below, this restaurant sits proudly upon its perch. The food here is a rich delight of tastes, with the crisp skin Atlantic Salmon Steak a popular choice. If you're craving some seafood, head on to Pier Nine Oyster Bar & Seafood Grill. This award-winning seafood restaurant offers a superb dining experience with floor to ceiling glass windows and an open-plan kitchen offering guests a selection of views. A wide variety of seafood and fish is featured on this menu including salmon, barramundi, crabs and mussels.

For authentic Vietnamese cuisine, check out the Green Papaya. Clean, fresh and simple dishes have been the hallmark of this popular restaurant since it opened 12 years ago. Chef Thang Nguyen has been at the helm in the kitchen for the past 8 years, and the menu changes very little. There are two chic, cheerful rooms, usually crowded with a faithful clientele. If you don't know your bo xao cay ngot (spicy beef) from your nom du du (green papaya salad), the helpful staff willingly gives advice. Brisbane has everything you're looking for as creative chefs abound.
