Description:
God willing, Brisbane's stunning neo-Gothic Anglican cathedral will finally be completed -- a mere 100 years after it was begun -- before you arrive for your visit. As the last Gothic-style cathedral to be completed anywhere in the world, the cathedral was on target for a December 2008 finish date. Stonemasons have toiled for years using traditional medieval building techniques to complete this wonderful building. The interior was completed in 2007, and the two massive copper spires were added to the western towers in early 2008. It is well worth a visit. Friendly, knowledgeable volunteer guides run tours and will point out some of the details that make this cathedral uniquely Queensland -- such as the carved possums on the organ screen and the hand-stitched cushions.
