Nightlife in Belgium could easily be dubbed "beerlife." For whiskey, you go to Edinburgh, for bitter you visit London, Paris for Champagne, and Barcelona for some sangria. But if beer is what you seek, you'll find one of the best traditions for beer in Belgium, with Brussels representing some of the best brews on earth.
You can find warm, inviting pubs and brasseries all over the city, with dark wood paneling, a few terraces and, of course, an extensive beer collection, making for one of the most popular ways for locals and tourists alike to spend an evening in Brussels. Despite the common love of beer and similarly amiable atmospheres in every pub, many of the Brussels bars distinguish themselves from the beer pack. Le Greenwich is famous for catering to chess lovers. They all love beer and they all love chess, and at any time of day you're likely to stumble upon an intense game (just don't distract them).
For those looking for something livelier than a beer at a local pub (although such evenings range from the laid-back to the rambunctious in Brussels), the city has its share of trendy cosmopolitan bars, techno and electronica dance clubs, and a variety of bars catering to the local LGBT community.
Lest you think otherwise, drinking is by no means the only means of entertainment during an evening in Brussels. Check out Café Bizon for blues and jazz music, among a variety of other rock, jazz and classical music venues.
On a broader scale, the Bozar complex offers seven different artistic departments - architecture, cinema, dance, expo, music, literature, theatre and studios - that offer events and exhibitions throughout the year.
