Hi.
You did not mention how long you intend to stay in Brussels (and maybe elsewhere in Belgium ?) ... Brussels is the capital city of Belgium and Europe. There are heaps of things to do, day and night.
The Youth Hostel "Jacques Brel" is not far from the center. See http://www.lesaubergesdejeunesse.be/article376?lang=en
Best sightseeing places: the Grand Place and the historic center in general, of course. Also the Atomium and Mini-Europe, outside the city center, but you can get there by metro.
There are also quite some musea in Brussels. Some are free on the first wednesday afternoon of the month ... See for example: http://www.idearts.be/magazine/dossiers/promo/visite_gratuite.htm
If you are interested in music and music instruments, I would suggest you the MIM ("Musée des Instruments de Musique"), in a splendid Art Nouveau building, not far from the Grand Place.

Welcome in Belgium, and have a nice stay !

if you want a cheap place, check budgetplaces.com, they always have some great places in the centre of the city and not expensive!
I would recommend you to go out of Brussels, go to Brugge or Gent, just a short train ride away and lovely places! Enjoy Belgium!
