Mountain biker heaven here. Check out the world-class Thunder Mountain Trail.

The visitor's center is only open April-October

    Description:

    • Part of the sprawling (two million acres!) Dixie National Forest, Red Canyon is a secret treasure located just nine miles west of Bryce Canyon. Most visitors pass by it en route between Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. The graceful hoodoos visible from the highway are enough to make you take notice. Your bladder might require a different sort of stop at the conveniently placed ranger station. Inside, you can also shop for maps, books, and souvenirs. Mountain bikes, horses,  ATVs (all terrain vehicles, locally called "four-wheelers"), and hiking humans all share the same trails, so be aware of safety and courtesy.

That famous outlaw, Butch Cassidy (nee Robert LeRoy Parker), grew up in the nearby town of Circleville, UT. Legend has it that on one of his many escapes from the law, he hid out in what is now Red Canyon. The popular Cassidy Trail is named after him.
