Description:
In the heart of the city, this postmodern structure consists of a massive wall of mirrored glass behind a reproduction of the old National Theater that once stood on this site. What this slick business hotel lacks in historic ambience, it more than makes up for with intelligent, helpful service. Receptionists -- in gray and pink suits -- double as concierges, and dish out meaningful, useful, personal advice. So, instead of hearing about all the usual tourist dives, you might actually be pointed toward a couple of local favorites. In this hotel, the crack staff actually make an effort to ask if they can be of assistance -- the whole service philosophy seems to run contrary to the Romanian norm. Decor is pretty indicative of contemporary trends everywhere -- plenty of straight lines, dark wood, upbeat lounge music, and vivid colors working to offset the IKEA-look furnishing. Guest rooms are hardly the stuff of radical innovation, but they're comfortable and thoughtfully laid out. All bathrooms come with tub and shower; toilets are in a separate room. Breakfast (18€/$23) is a particularly impressive buffet spread (attended to by model-like waiting staff); you can sip champagne as you gaze out through massive windows deep into the bowels of the city -- the view makes for a startling contrast. Note: While the rack rates listed below are high, you'll find reductions when you book online, and weekends are considerably more affordable, too.
