With so much nature in the city, there are a whole load of outdoor activities to do in Budapest. They are basically divided between the islands dotted along the Danube and the hills of the Buda side. Pest also has some nice parks, but they are less suitable for outdoor activities. So, there's no reason to spend the whole vacation in a hotel room - get out there and enjoy the "great outdoors" of Budapest!
Our first pick is the Buda Hills, "the lungs of the city" and also its playground. The next five picks are all located in this area:
Gellért Hill in the heart of the city has some great parks and exceptional view of the city. Normafa has several picturesque paths for hiking and biking plus a sledge slope in the winter. The Libegő on St. John's Hill is a great way to enjoy the view and fill your lungs with fresh air. The Elizabeth look-out tower at the top has a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding hills. The Children's Railway snakes along a scenic route through the hills and lastly Sas Hegy is another outdoor paradise.
Margaret Island, the back yard of the inner city is perfect for walking, biking and running, has tennis courts and a swimming pool amongst others.
Still on the Buda side but leaving the hills: The Görzenál Skate Park in Óbuda in ninth place.
Our last pick is the City Park, largest park of the Pets side with play grounds, football courts, an artificial lake and even a large trampoline.
