Gorgeous, expansive outdoor garden, open May-Sept, makes this artist’s hangout worth a visit. Ridiculously cheap lunch specials weekdays.

  • Description:

    • Housed in the former Communist artists' club, there's a beer hall in the cellar, two eating areas (one on the ground floor and one upstairs), a gallery/exhibition area and a TV room-cum-students' union bar. In warmer months the best spot is the large courtyard, which has pink decor and plants. Inside, there is an imposing entrance, a wide high-ceilinged foyer and a sumptuous, sweeping double-sided stairway that winds past enormous stained glass windows. Set menus are available include 'Hunter's Choice' offering homemade pheasant soup, game croquettes, game stew in red wine and cottage cheese dumplings. The 'Gourmet Menu' includes wild boar ragout and liver croquettes. Bean soup, goulash and all the traditional favorites are available.

Was good, once upon a time

    • A former artist's club, where exhibitions, performances and cheap, but tasty food was on the menu. Nowadays it is nothing at all, just an average restaurant with tired waiters...
