Description:
Once you descend the steep steps to enter this restaurant, you will find a simply decorated ultraclean restaurant that is run by the local Hari Krishna-type group here in the city. Eliminate any negative thoughts since the proceeds from this restaurant help support their efforts in feeding the homeless of the city through a monthly food giveaway. They serve delicious vegetarian food in a tranquil, smoke-free environment with Indian gods and goddesses looking over your shoulder. The operation is on a self-service system where you can choose from different dishes, each at a set price. You can also choose from two daily menu options written on a blackboard or a small or large sampler platter. Choices might include stuffed squash with Indian ragout and brown rice; or a potato-pumpkin casserole with garlic Roquefort sauce, steamed cabbage, and spinach soufflé. Or you can simply go for a soup (cream of cauliflower perhaps, or lentil) and the salad bar. Unless you have a really healthy appetite, we recommend the small sampler which is ample. Seating is plentiful, but this place can be packed at lunchtime on weekdays, so you may have to wait in line. The staff speaks English and will explain each dish. There is a small shop in back, stocked with New Age and Eastern literature, clothes, candles and incense. For those inclined, there is a meditation room also.
