Description:

  • Octopus is situated in a cellar in a dingy street that runs parallel to Andrassy utca, behind the Oktogon square (in the premises that was previously occupied by the Mirtusz vegetarian restaurant). Now renovated and with a change of style, Octopus concentrates on sea food. The long cellar bar is fairly claustrophobic as it has no windows, but a great effort has been made to brighten it up. The arches set in the side walls are lit up and tables are spaced at a reasonable distance. Unusual acoustics mean that conversations taking place in the far corner sound as though they are being whispered in your ear. This restaurant gave up on the foolish notion of vegetarianism in Hungary and decided to concentrate on fish and seafood. Shrimps, crab and lobster are prepared in a variety of unusual and imaginative ways, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. It also serves good pasta, meat and a few veggie numbers. Selected Hungarian wines are also on offer at a reasonable price.
