Description:
An old-fashioned chairlift lifts you over the tree tops to János Hill. From here you can take a steep 10 to 15 minute walk to Budapest's highest point. At the top is the neo-Romanesque Erzsébet Kilátó (Lookout Tower), built in 1910. When I went there was no charge, but others have claimed there was a nominal fee to climb the tower. It is well worth it for the view. The tower is open daily from 8am to 5pm. You'll find a nondescript snack bar at the tower, but be careful of bees in the warm weather. You can ride the chair back down, hike back down to the no. 158 bus, or, if you like try the Buda Triangle above.
