• Discover the little side streets of the Jewish district to get a real taste of local Hungarian life. The former Jewish ghetto of the Second World War today, is a really pleasant compact little neighbourhood, which not only preserves the Jewish culture still prevalent in the city today, but is a hot spot for local Budapest life. Officially speaking 1% of the city's population is Jewish, and in this district you will find the largest Synagogue in Europe, which is the second largest in the world after the one in New York. There are three other synagogues scattered around, perfectly hidden from the untrained eye. You will find at least one hidden treasure along every street, may that be a tiny tea hose, a park, or a building that has its own story to tell. The little streets are full of lovely restaurants, cafés and the ruin pubs, which are very typical of Budapest. They are old abandoned apartment houses turned into pubs, with interesting decoration such as antique furniture, old car tyres and bath tubs giving it this "ruined" look.
