Vajdahunyad Castle

Description:

  • Many refer to this castle as a replica of a Transylvanian castle, but actually, it was built for the 1896 Millennium celebration. The purpose was to highlight the different architectural styles of the past with detailed replicas of historic buildings in Hungary incorporated into the design. The main section is a copy of the Vajdahunyad Tower, giving it its name. Interestingly, the original made for the celebration was made of cardboard, and of course disintegrated. Now the building houses the Museum of Agriculture, a surprisingly interesting place to visit, not only for seeing the interior of the building, but also for the exhibits. The permanent exhibit is free.
