The best gulyas (Hungarian beef stew) is served in Komedias cafe in Str.Nagymezö,close to Oktogon.I agreee with Andras Csillag below, Pozsonyi Kisvendeglo is absolutely not touristic yet very good. I'd suggest you to try Café Gerlóczy in the 5th district, it is also close to the city centre yet not very touristic.

Hi,
If you are interested in fine dining try the restaurant Rosenstein (http://rosenstein.hu/).
If you are on lower budget than a very good choice could be the Vakvarju restaurants (http://www.vakvarju.com/).
Enjoy!

I like this one:
http://www.trofeagrill.com/

Its kind of buffet dinner, for one amount of money you can eat and drink anything you can within 3 hours.

Cafes: on the Andrassy street there is an Alexandra book store and it has a really beautiful cafe, or the Californian Cafe close to the St. Stephan Basilic.

If you would like to taste traditional Hungarian dishes, I suggest the Tüköry restaurant. The prices are very friendly and the staff speaks languages, they also have menu cards in English and German. It is located in the 5th district of Budapest, in the Hold utca. Just behind the US Embassy (the Embassy's front is in the Szabadság tér)

My opinion is that one of the best authentic food restaurant is Pozsonyi Kisvendéglő http://www.etterem.hu/3414, and Zöld kapu http://zoldkapuvendeglo.mindenkilapja.hu/.
Regarding caffés: I suggest Szalai Cukrázda http://welovebudapest.com/hu/kavezok-barok/szalai-cukraszda.

Enjoy!

Hi,
You've got quite a few ideas already, so I just reassure you about tips coming from Szilvia Kardos, Andras Csillag and Gergo Csanyi. Rosenstein is a brilliant family-owned fine dining place where yu have the best of traditional Hungarian and Jewish cuisine. Very similar place is the Fülemüle (Nightingale) Restaurant (http://www.fulemule.hu/en). Cozy little place with excellent food and service, also family-owned.
Pastry and café places - there are loads of them all over in the city, try them. The best places are in the so called Jewish quarter and Pozsonyi út and area. In general I would avoid places in the heart of Downtown and among the bank of Danube, those are the main tourist targets.
According to Loneley Planet the world's bets clubs are in Budapest. A38 ship (www.a38.hu) and Szimpla (www.szimpla.hu).
have fun! :))
