Description:
This moody Argentine restaurant has an aura of Zen chic. During the day, you'll notice its Argentine touches, such as Salta Indian designs, leather lounge sofas, and tables with dark leather placemats. At night, when the staircase is lit with candles and the water fountain is on, you're in a new romantic world. The restaurant has three levels, plus a torchlit terrace, all overseen by waiters in gauzy outfits with Nehru collars. In spite of these slightly Asian touches, the food is strictly Argentine. It is "elaborado," or ornate Argentine, with many of the meats marinated, such as the beef with mushrooms and herbs. Desserts are worth a trip here, especially the chocolate mousse with passion fruit or the orange flan with ginger and coconut. Prix-fixe lunch and dinner menus run from $12 to $15 (£8.50-£11), Monday to Thursday. The restaurant's name refers to Buenos Aires's location on the globe, Meridian 58.
