Museo Ernesto Che Guevara

Description:

  • No longer technically a museum, but with the remnants of what had been the Museo Che Guevara until it ran into financial problems ironically around the 40th anniversary of Che's death, this store is unusual. Run by Eladio González, an extremely eccentric character with an amazing depth of knowledge, along with Irene Perpiñal, you'll find some of Che's clothes, explanatory signs from the original museum, as well as other items from his life. The rest of the place is a hodgepodge of used electrical parts, Evita sculptures, old dishes, and Halloween masks, adding to the odd atmosphere. English-fluent Eladio will beguile you with stories about Argentine-born Che, his place in the world, and how he continues to impact generations, along with his own visits to Cuba. It's a strange place, but worth a visit, and they hope by late 2009 to reopen the actual museum somewhere nearby in the Caballito neighborhood.
