There is no shortage of hipster hangouts in San Lucas, although there is not what you would call a definable Cabo style. Clubs here range from casual cool to upscale chic, and what gives them cache is not necessarily the cocktails or the decor, but the music, ambiance, and personality of the patrons.
The hippest place is where all the locals hang out, which is why the Cabo Lounge is number one on our list. The Lounge is heavy on colorful characters, with great live music on Fridays from Brian Flynn and a rotating cast of great musicians. Baja Junkie, in contrast, draws both locals and tourists, largely because of the great deejays that play late into the night.
The coolest spot on the marina is always Nowhere Bar, which is a great spot for people watching, yacht envy, and a varied clientele that ranges from surfers to movie stars. Mandala and Pink Kitty are both ultra-hip dance clubs with international deejays and VIP bottle service, and very popular with the San Lucas in-crowd as well as visiting celebrities. Pink Kitty has an all-female staff (save security), and hosts some of the top events in town. Mandala features an on-site sushi bar. Both are mandatory stops for hipster glitterati.
El Squid Roe is an interesting case. With the possible exception of Cabo Wabo, it is the most popular bar in town, something which generally is the antithesis of hip. Yet Squid Roe is so rowdy and good-natured, even the most tragically hip locals can't stay away from this place. It is a signature bar in San Lucas, and one of the reasons is that it seems to cut across so many boundaries and genres.
Other local spots with cool vibes include Barometro on the marina, with its soft blue lighting and giant video screen, and Fumari Cafe, which has its own niche as the only hookah bar in town. Passion at Nikki Beach is de rigeur with visiting swimsuit models, and Jungle Bar is the place for the denim-clad rock and roll crowd.
Overall, the hipster aesthetic here is more hot than cold. Rather than being too cool for school, the local smart set runs to live music and dancing, and the later the better.
