  • Want to get off the beaten pack and explore restaurant options away from the marina and Medano Beach? There are a lot of great restaurants here that will reward intrepid explorers, and most are extremely value oriented as well. Even most locals don't know about Chabelita. This little maritime themed gem is located at the Cabo Mar fish market, where many heralded restaurants buy their fresh seafood. Chabelita isn't fancy. They offer tacos, quesadillas, and other Mexican specialties for about a dollar each. What makes them truly special is the pozole verde. This Guerrero specialty is the best hangover cure in Mexico, and is the most expensive thing on the menu at 3.50 USD. Jerry's Pizza is around the corner from Chabelita, and offers one of the more unique dining experiences in town. Jerry makes pizzas for all the local schoolkids by day, and local residents by night. He will generally give you a beer or a drink of scotch while you wait for your pie. The Ridge Bistro is off the beaten track only in the sense that very few people have the opportunity to eat here. Located at Ridge Luxury Villas in Pedregal, it rewards anyone lucky enough to get a table. El Pollo de Oro is located downtown, and has the best pork ribs and fried chicken tacos in San Lucas. When you see the local police standing around waiting for their orders, you know you've found a local favorite. Lolita's Restaurante is just a block or so away from heavily traveled tourist areas, but very few ever eat here, which is a shame because they have some of the best breakfasts in town, as well as a really unique and charming atmosphere. Try the chilaquiles. If you can finish the plate, you'll need to loosen the belt a couple of notches.
