Top 10:

Cabo San Lucas Adventure

  • The Best of NileGuide

  • Adventurous pursuits like deep-sea fishing and off-road racing have always been popular in Baja, but the past several years have seen a boom in a fresh new crop of outdoor activities such as zip-lining, kiteboarding, rappelling, snuba, and stand up paddle surfing. There are a host of adventure-themed companies in Los Cabos now offering a variety of vigorous ways to experience the natural wonders of the area, and even a theme park that specializes in adrenaline-pumping "rides."

Cabo Adventures is the best of the local adventure companies, offering an activities menu that includes eco-adventures such as dolphin swims, outback camel safaris, and zip-lining in the Unesco protected Boca de Sierra biosphere, as well as more traditional tours involving scuba diving and whale watching, among others. They are also launching a new mountain biking adventure that will be set near the coast north of Cabo San Lucas.

Cabo Expeditions also offers a number of stellar activities and adventures, including the scuba/snorkel hybrid called snuba, day trips to Isla Espiritu Santo off the coast of La Paz, and the adrenaline pumpings swim with whale sharks. These creatures are quite gentle, but are absolutely enormous, so being in the water with them can involve a healthy amount of anxiety. Amigos del Mar, Cabo's premier dive shop, also offers whale shark swims, as well as trips to Cabo Pulmo, the largest living coral reef in the western hemisphere, and a protected sanctuary that is teeming with marine life.

Canopy Costa Azul features one of the best of the many zip-line tours now offered in Los Cabos, as does the theme park Wild Canyon, which also offers bungee jumping, rapelling, and an exhilarating glass-bottom gondola ride. Those who like breathtaking views from impressive heights will also enjoy powered hang gliding from Cabo Sky Tours, with airborne cruising over Land's End, Pedregal, and Medano Beach.

For off-road racing through the desert, or along the Pacific coast, both Wide Open Baja and Baja Buggys are excellent options.
