Cabo San Lucas has an honestly earned reputation as a plaground for adults, but there are also a wealth of family oriented activities that can provide enjoyment for children and young adults.
Cabo Dolphins is at the top of the list. They offer dolphin encounters for small children, and there is no age limit involved for the dolphin swims, as long as the kids aren't afraid of being in the water with the animals, and grabbing onto a fin for a tow around the pool. You will see looks of pure joy as the youngsters interacts with these gentle creatures. Cabo Submarine also gets looks of astonishment and excitement from the kids, as they get to watch the colorful local marine life from an underwater vantage point in the lower viewing cabin.
Cabo Karting is best for kids that are a little older, and can meet the 4'6" height requirement. The karts are a blast, and the sessions consist of 14 laps around their winding road course. You can race friends or family, and get printouts of your performance afterwards. For the playground set, Medano Beach is the most popular beach in town, and at over two miles long, provides abundant opportunities for sand castle building, or access to water-based activities.
If the kids would like a pirate-style adventure, take the family aboard the oldest ship in all of Mexico, the topsail schooner Sunderland. This is among the better sunset activities for the youngsters, and the captain will regale them will tales of local pirates and buried treasure. Other favorites include the outback safari operated by Cabo Adventures, or letting the youngster ride shotgun while Mom or Dad tears up the dunes in a Baja Buggy.
For a cultural interlude, the Museo Cabo San Lucas is the local natural history museum, and a good place for children to learn about the local marine life, the native inhabitants, and the golden age of piracy on the cape.
