The Carlton Roof Terrace is on top of the Carlton Hotel in Downtown Cairo. It's a pretty bog standard rooftop bar, with simple tables and chairs, dim lighting, and funny lights and foliage decorating the fence that surrounds the roof.The Carlton Roof Terrace is much larger than the nearby Odeon Palace rooftop bar, and doesn't tend to get so crowded. It's also a little cheaper, with a bottle of local Stella weighing in at around 10 LE. They also serve shisha pipes, and food. Avoid the food, though, unless you are really drunk and in desperate need of ballast.
The service is a bit patchy at the Carlton Roof Terrace, but the staff are normally accommodating enough. They might even turn down the awful, ear-splitting Arabic pop that tends to be blaring out the speakers in the evenings.
The Carlton Roof Terrace is a good option if you are looking for a rooftop bar that's not as pricey as El Mojito, and not as cramped as the Odeon. Although you don't really get any views as such from the rooftop, you can still kick back with a Stella and a shisha pipe. It's particularly nice in the summer, when – if you are lucky – you might even catch a bit of breeze!
