The Best of NileGuide

Cairo isn't stacked full of romantic things to do or see – though it does have some very romantic restaurants and nightspots – but the activities it does offer are fantastic. The romantic things to do in Cairo are mainly outside the city proper, away from the noise and crowds.
If there's one thing you must do as a couple, it's take a sunset felucca ride on the Nile. While there are many spots along the cornice to rent one of these traditional sailing boats, the best place in Cairo is in Maadi since there are no bridges to get in your way, so you can enjoy uninterrupted sailing, and perhaps a snuggle as the sun goes down.
Second in romance to the Nile is getting out into the desert behind the Pyramids on a horse or a camel. Again, sunset is the best time, and you'll enjoy the haunting call to prayer rolling in from all over the city. Double up on your ride to make it extra romantic.
Sometimes, escaping Cairo is the most romantic thing you can do. Camp out under the stars in the White Desert near Bahereya, or wander the Valley of the Whales together in Wadi Rayan.
If you can't escape Cairo, ambling around Beit al-Souhaymi playing pasha and consort is as romantic as Islamic Cairo gets, or ascend the Cairo tower and cosy up together with a fine view of the city.
We've not included the Pyramids in the list of romantic things to do in Cairo, because it's often too frantic, but the Sound and Light show is a good alternative. And don't be fooled by the Nile cruise dinners – they are usually too cheesy to be romantic.
