Hotel Longchamps

• Nestled in the heart of Zamalek, this quiet midrange hotel has been family-run since 1953. Investment and reenergized management have brought significant improvements over the last couple of years, however, and the Longchamps now shines in its class, putting many significantly more-expensive hotels to shame. The surprisingly spacious rooms, and even more spacious executive rooms, have been spruced up with the kind of high-quality fittings that you would expect in a more expensive facility; the restaurant has also been completely renovated. The public areas, which are decorated with photos and furniture collected by the owner's family over the last 5 decades, have a comfortable and homey feel to them. About the only thing that this place doesn't have is a view, but at less than half the price of the cheapest Nile-view rooms in town, this is the only area in which the Longchamps comes up short. This is certainly the best value for money in Zamalek, and possibly in Cairo.
