Description:
This is the retail outlet for the Heineken-owned behemoth Al Ahram Beverage Company, which, protected by massive import duties, makes almost all the alcoholic beverages produced in Egypt. There are outlets all over town, but the most convenient outlet is on 26th of July Street in Zamalek across from the Cairo Marriott. It sells all the beers, wines, and hard liquor that are produced in Egypt (except for Scheherazade wines, which are a little tricky to find outside restaurants), including Stella, Saqqara, and Meister beers; Omar Khayam, Grand Marquis, and Cape Bay wines; and a line of best-avoided hard liquor, which includes the undrinkable Ould Stag whiskey and some headache-inducing vodka. Its drop-off service (tel. 19330) is pretty efficient, but you're going to have to slip something substantial to the concierge to accept the delivery (LE50-LE100/$9.10-$18/£4.60-£9.25). tel. 19330.
