South Saqqara

Description:

  • This site is completely distinct from, and not to be confused, with Saqqara. South Saqqara lies about 11 kilometers (seven miles) south of of Saqqara. Founded by VI Dynasty pharaohs, in about 2345-2181 BCE; South Saqqara contains the pyramids of Pepi I, Pepi II, Menere, Queen Neith and many others. The structure is somewhat similar to the Pyramid of Unas - not particularly impressive outside but elaborately decorated inside. One of the most impressive sights is the Pyramid of Queen Neith, so don't miss that one if you go.
